Pre-Kindergarten

PREPARING YOUR CHILD FOR KINDERGARTEN

Pre-kindergarten classes offer activities aimed at preparing your child for kindergarten. With a balance of child and teacher directed activities, children are encouraged to develop independence and confidence. Teachers reinforce concepts that will sharpen your child’s thinking skills, preparing them for success in kindergarten.

  • THE CHIPMUNK HOLLOW (Monday, Wednesday, Friday mornings or Monday – Friday mornings 9:00 AM – 12 PM / 4 year-olds)
  • THE FAWN FOREST (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday mornings 9:00 AM – 12 PM / 4 year-olds)
  • THE CUB CAVE (Full-day class with the option of 3 or 5 days / 4 year-olds)
  • THE JOEY’S POUCH (5 mornings a week with the option of 2, 3 or 5 full days / 4 & 5 year-olds)
  • THE KOALA NOOK (5 mornings a week with the option of 2, 3 or 5 full days / 4 & 5 year-olds)

 

Schedule

Morning Schedule includes:

  • Circle time — Morning meeting, activities with the Letter People, songs, fingerplays, stories, games
  • Center time — Art, fine motor, books, math, blocks, homeliving, writing, sensory table, music, science
  • Small Group time — teachers work with small groups of children, teaching a variety of skills
  • Outdoor Play — children engage in self-directed and teacher-directed activities to build healthy bodies
  • Snack — children learn table manners and conversational skills; snack is provided
  • Large Group time — music and movement activities and games

Afternoon Schedule includes:

  • Lunch — your child brings his/her own lunch
  • Rest time — usually from 1:30-2:30 pm / Quiet activities provided for children who don’t sleep
  • Snack — children learn table manners and conversational skills; snack is provided
  • Group Activity —  music and movement activities,  games, cooking, and art/crafts
  • Outdoor Play — children engage in self-directed and teacher-directed activities to build healthy bodies
  • Center time — usually with combined age groups / May include art, fine motor, books, math, blocks, home living

Curriculum

Your child will be developing kindergarten readiness skills, including:

– Recognizing and writing their names and the names of their friends
– Counting objects and identifying numbers to 20

– Identifying and extending simple patterns
– Identifying upper and lowercase letters, shapes and colors

– Discovering the sounds letters make and how those sounds make words
– Beginning writing skills
– Classifying

– Weighing and measuring
